Burning Rome – Burning Rome (1982)

Burning Rome is a straight ahead rock and roll from Los Angeles (which is, to be honest, not the Bay Area).

front

BURNING ROME vocalist Vicki Thomas was a mere 21 years old when A&M Records released the band’s debut album in 1982. Thomas had gone solo at the tender age of 13 before joining an all-girl group called RENAISSANCE WOMAN playing marine bases and Rock joints. After employment as a singing waitress, Vicki cut an R&B single, that was never actually released, before gaining a contract from A&M Records with more Hard Rock material.

Producer Liam Sternberg was enlisted to help Thomas assemble a band to record with as the project evolved into BURNING ROME. The pair subsequently enlisted guitarist Steve Dougherty, bassist Ron Murray and former TOMMY TUTONE and ELVIS COSTELLO drummer Micky Shine.
The band were formed late in 1981 and an album followed in the middle of the next year. Thomas is a good vocalist and the band are polished and agressive. Micky Shine once drummed with Clover and that’s why the band is listed here.

Not a bad rock/pop album from Burning Rome. Vicki has a great voice and she recorded a track for the Navy Seals film soundtrack Wounded Warrior a real power ballad.
In the late 80s Steve Dougherty was to turn up as a member of EYES. Dougherty also down guitar on BERLIN’s smash 1986 album ‘Count Three & Pray’.
