Grayson Hugh – Blind To Reason (1988)

front

Grayson Hugh (born in Hartford, Connecticut on October 30, 1950) is an American singer-songwriter, pianist, Hammond B3 organ player and composer.
Blue-eyed Southern soul singer Grayson Hugh deviates from his strident tenor a couple of times on this album. The material is solid. Name-brand musicians (bassist Fernando Saunders and guitarist Rick Derringer) and vocalists (including Audrey Wheeler and Will Downing) accompany Hugh on highlights such as “Talk It Over” and “Hard Life.”
From the beginning song”Romantic Heart” ,Grayson sings and plays his heart out with a wild abandon unmatched by scores of artists in today’s market. The energy captured in such songs as”Tears of Love”, “Finally Found A Friend” and “Hard Life” is truly amazing. Blessed with a voice reminisent of some of Motown and Philly’s best as well as a touch of Michael McDonald thrown in, Hugh never lets up as he approaches ballads and soulful sendups with the fervor of a driven man determined not to be misunderstood.
Equally adept as an accomplished keyboardist, Grayson Hugh really is the complete package.
Hugh moved to New York City in 1986 and due to a chance meeting with a talent scout in an elevator, Hugh was signed to RCA Records in 1987 He broke into the Billboard Hot 100 in 1989 with three singles from his album Blind to Reason (RCA Records, 1988).
In 1989 “Talk It Over”, a song written by Sandy Linzer and Irwin Levine that Hugh arranged, reached the Top 20. After Hugh had arranged and recorded this song, Olivia Newton-John was given rights of first release, then recorded it herself and released it as a single under the name “Can’t We Talk It Over In Bed”. Hugh subsequently released his version which became a hit. His two other singles “Bring It All Back”
